Great to grab the attention of your media students- using a fantastic crime documentary the students will work through a series of tasks to develop their understanding of the key media concepts.
This huge bundle (full contents listed below) will enable you to teach the key media concepts using an excellent CRIME documentary (which is freely available on YouTube) as your anchor point. This pack would be great to introduce the key concepts or to consolidate knowledge. Plenty of Ofsted- friendly (booo) stuff in here too. Also useful for revision. Suitable for middle to higher ability GCSE and AS students.
The mark schemes provided are adapted from the AQA spec but, as noted, all specs require investigations and analyses of media products and the success criteria I have written is easily adaptable.
This pack contains;
- 76 slide PowerPoint covering the media focuses listed below
- class tasks/ discussions
- homework tasks
- 3 exam style assessments with marking criteria provided for each (inspired by the AQA GCSE Media syllabus but easily adaptable for your own spec)
- teacher notes
Covers-
- denotation and connotation
- dvd cover analysis
- mise en scene
- music and sound
- mode of address
- genre conventions
- ideology
- camera shots
- institution
- narrative
- representation
Note: you will need to screen the documentary which is around 80 minutes long so ensure you have adequate time. I also strongly advise you to watch it yourself prior to teaching the unit- it is a fantastic and inspiring documentary which will inevitably provoke debate among your students.
It is important not to read anything about the documentary before watching.
If you have any queries please don't hesitate to get in touch- happy to answer questions prior to purchase,
Happy teaching!
